BE SEPARATE - PART ONE
MEMORY VERSE : Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. 1 John 2:15.
BIBLE VERSE : 11 Corinthians 6:14-18; Ephesians 5:1-8.
INTRODUCTION: In (1 Jn. 2:15), we are told to “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” The Apostle John went further in (1 John. 2:16). To explain to us the meaning of the word “world”. The “world” as used here means “the lust of the flesh” and the lust of the eye” and the “pride of life.” It also means the present world system that is controlled by Satan, together with its political systems, its systems of entertainments and so on. From all these things we are to be separated. These do no include the material blessings of this life which God gives liberally and richly for all to enjoy (1 Tim. 6:17).
FROM WHAT ARE WE TO BE SEPARATED?
Basically, we are to separate from all forms of sin and worldly pleasures and be separate unto God. In particular, there are specific things that are definitely forbidden.
(a) Marriage between a believer and an unbeliever is forbidden (11 Cor. 6:14-17). In (Amos 3:3), we read, “Can two walk together, except they are agreed?” This is a definite Biblical principle that does not change with the passing ages.
(b) We are to be separate from all works of darkness. Business partnership between believers and unbelievers are forbidden by this verse. Unbelievers have their ways of doing business that are definitel not righteous.
(c) We are to be separate from all works of darkness. Anything that cannot be done openly is evil. This includes all secret cults by whatever name they may be called. A Christian is expected to be the light of the world. Where light is, darkness automatically disappears.
(d) We are to be separate from Belial, the old devil (11 Cor. 6:15). This included all forms of idol worshipping and customs that are of pagan origin. Not only are we not be participate physically but we are not to contribute financially either. God the Son is dwelling in any truly born-again Christian and all that he is and has belong to Christ and they should not be used to glorify the devil.
(e) We are to be separated from infidels. We cannot even have fellowship with them at all.
(f) We are to be separated from heretics (11 Jn. 9:11). We are event not allowed to let such people stay in our home.
(g) We are to be separated from false teachers who dispute about basic doctrines (1 Tim. 6:5). Anyone who denies the virgin birth, the resurrection and the Divinity of Jesus Christ is to be avoided. Anyone who says you can continue in sin because you are under grace and not under the law is a false teacher. Anyone who denies the power in the Blood of Jesus Christ is to be avoided.
(h) We are to be separate from all known forms of sin and immortality including fornication, adultery, alcoholism, smoking 1 Pet. 1:16. Because our body is not our own, we are God’s Temple and God says whoever destroys His Temple will himself be destroyed.
