The spirit filled

THE SPIRIT FILLED
MEMORY VERSE : But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven. Acts 7:55.
BIBLE PASSAGE: Ephesians 3:14-21; 14-21.
INTRODUCATION : The crowning act of faith for a believer is for him to surrender his life to the Spirit. This is not necessary for salvation, but it is necessary to be Spirit-filled. The infilling of the Spirit is received only when the believer consciously recognizes the Holy Spirit as being in full control of his life, completely governing every detail of his life. Now being filled with the Holy Spirit is a must for every believer. (Eph. 5:18). Is a very strong New Testament Command.
WHO NEEDS TO BE SPIRIT-FILLED?
Every believer in Jesus Christ needs the filling of the Holy Spirit. The filling is for Apostles, preachers, fathers, mothers, bachelors, spinsters, old people and young. We need the filling for our own benefits in order to be the best possible Christians. Without it we cannot reach the goal set for us by God. The church needs spirit-filled members. If the filling is lacking, the Church is plagued with disorders, dissensions, strife, backbiting, jealousy and scandal. Every member of the Church should be Spirit-filled, the Pastors, Deacons, Workers, Sunday School Teachers, Ushers, Choir Members, Organist and every other member of the church.
WHY?
Why must every member be filled? The point is that our Christian walk is two fold:
(a) God ward and (b) outward to fellowmen.
The world expects every Christian to be perfect. To live up to this high standard, every believer desperately needs the Spirit’s filling.
Secondly, we cannot be effective witnesses if we are not Spirit-filled. To do the work of the Lord in the energy of the flesh can only lead to disappointment and failure.
Thirdly, the lives of Spirit-filled Christians are evidences of the transforming power of Jesus Christ and a great challenge to unbelievers.
HOW OFTEN CAN I BE FILLED?
We are to keep on being filled. Let the filling be constant and continuous. For example, the Apostle Peter was filled with the Spirit in (Acts 2:4), again in (Acts 4:8), and again in (Acts 4:31). Each day needs its own new fullness. Let us constantly know the overflowing of the Spirit. (Jn.7:38-39).
WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS FOR BEING FILLED?
Four major conditions for continuous filling of the Holy Spirit are (a) Be sure you remain a child of God, i.e. do not lose your salvation or backslide (Gal. 4:6). (b) Have a great thirst for this continuous filling (Jn. 7:37-39). It is those who thirst who drink and drink to the full. (c) Pray for it ceaselessly. It is what you ask for that you will get (Lk.11:13). (d) Whenever you pray, be sure you pray in faith. Any doubter cannot receive any blessings from God (Gal. 3:13-14).
Above all, the secret of being filled with the Holy Spirit is surrender, surrendering our wills, our bodies, possessions and every aspect of our lives to His control.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF BEING SPIRIT-FILLED?
If you are continuously Spirit-filled, (a) You have at your disposal every day tremendous power to witness, to heal, to cast out demons and to face anything the devil may throw at you 9Acts 1;8, Mk. 16:17-20). (b) You will have power to live a victorious Christian Life (Acts 20:22-24) and (c) Glory will certainly accrue to the Lord, which is the basic ministry of the Holy Spirit (Jn. 16:14). Are you filled with the Holy Spirit? Do you wish to be fuller still? Pray about it now.
