The works of the Holy spirit:we discovered the part He played in the creation of the heaven and the earth and how He can destroy whenever the need arises....
THE WORKS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
MEMORY VERSE : But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8.
BIBLE PASSAGE: John 16:7-14
INTRODUCATION : In the first part of this lesson, we discovered who the Holy Spirit is, and who active He has been before the creation of the world. We discovered the part He played in the creation of the heaven, and the earth, how He preserves and renews the earth and how He can destroy whenever the need arises. We discussed the part He played in bringing Jesus to the world and how He was involved in every aspect of Christ’s Ministry here on earth. We also mentioned how it was by the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus performed His miracles and that it was the power of the Holy Spirit that raised Jesus Christ from the dead. We ended the first part by saying tat the Holy Spirit is now actively interested in the Bride of Jesus Christ, that is, the Church. We shall now continue from there.
HE SEALS THE BRIDE:
After a soul is saved, he becomes a part of the Bride of Jesus Christ. Immediately, the Holy Spirit assures the new convert of sonship and starts the work of making him sonlike. But the Holy Spirit does much more than that, For instance, He seals the believer as a pledge of future glory
(11 Cor.1:22). The work of sanctification is begun in the believer and if the believer has the right teachings and sufficient faith, he could be sanctified readily. The Holy Spirit is always anxious to do this because whoever is sanctified is set apart unto holiness and unto God, which is the will of God concerning every member of the Bride of Christ (11 Thess. 2:13, 1 Pet. 1:2).
To prevent the new believer from making mistakes, the Holy Spirit starts to guide him into all truth while abiding continuously with him. By the virtue of being a part of the Bride of Christ, the believer therefore becomes someone special, sealed by the holy Spirit, guided by Him, sanctified and set apart unto God and holy living through the power of the third person of the Trinity.
HE GIVES THE BRIDE POWER:
Jesus Christ the Bridegroom, before He left told His disciples that there is only one way to obtain power. And that one way is through the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8). But what type of power is it? In the first place, the Holy Spirit gives us power to tell others about the wonderful Bridegroom, Jesus Christ, without the power of the Holy Spirit, no one can witness effectively. It is the power of the Holy Spirit that makes it easy for us to impart truth to others and to make them understand. Not only that, He gives us power to obey the truth irrespective of cost (1 Pet.1:22) and power to obey God in the time of weakness so that we are able to please God by gaining victory over the flesh. In other words, it is by the power of the Holy Spirit that we can mortify the deeds of the body (Rom. 8:13) so that with the power of the Holy Spirit we can have continuous victory over the terrible desires of the flesh.
HE GIVES THE BRIDE FREEDOM:
While we were yet sinners, we were slaves to Satan. And being a slave to Satan implies being without freedom and being in bondage to so many things. However, the moment we become a part of the Divine Bride, the Holy Spirit procures for us several sweet freedoms. For example, He gives the believer freedom from law of sin and death (Rom. 8:2) by leading the believer out from under the law to liberty in Christ (Gal. 5:18). And by assisting us in putting away the things that displease our Father God we are led by the Holy Spirit to walk holy and blameless (Gal. 5:25), free from the curses and sorrows that follow a sinful life.
HE TEACHES THE BRIDE:
In preparation for our marriage with Christ Jesus, we have many things to learn. The Holy Spirit being fully aware of this takes the word of God and teaches us all we need to know (Jn. 14:26). He reveals, interprets and shows us the applications of the deep things of God (1 Cor. 2; 9-14). He reminds us of things we have learnt and continuously trains us until He has made Jesus, the Lord of your life yet or are you still struggling with the Holy Spirit?
